The book evolved largely from Marc’s work helping to create and lead “Search Inside Yourself\,” the mindfulness-based emotional intelligence program that originated at Google\, and ultimately led to the foundation of the Search Inside Yourself Leadership Institute\, which Marc co-founded and led as CEO for five years. It also builds on his experiences as a Zen teacher at San Francisco Zen Center (SFZC)\, particularly his time as head cook and director at Tassajara\, Zen Mountain Center\, the first Zen monastery in the western world. \nJoin Marc at SFZC for a free author talk\, Q&A\, and book signing on Saturday morning\, April 27\, beginning at 10:00 am. In his talk\, Marc will cover the seven simple yet profound practices from his new book that support conscious\, compassionate leadership. When used together\, they support a path of well-being\, productivity\, and positive influence. After attending this workshop\, you’ll understand why some of the world’s most successful companies routinely incorporate the seven practices of mindful leadership\, integrating mindfulness\, emotional intelligence\, and business savvy\, to create great corporate cultures\, and even a better world. \nFees: $60; $54 current SFZC members; $48 limited income. NOTE: There is no charge for the lecture and Q&A. Some partial scholarships available.

SUMMARY:Esalen 5-day Workshop\, Mindfulness\, Sensory Awareness and Zen Practice
DESCRIPTION:With Lee Lesser \nIn our world of busy-ness — of more\, faster\, better — this retreat offers time to stop\, reflect\, and renew. It is a time to step fully into the richness of our lives. Together we will follow a gentle schedule of sensory awareness practice and sitting meditation interspersed with talks\, Zen stories\, and journal writing\, as well as small group and large group dialogue as we uncover how these stories and dialogues may be utilized to transform our way of being in the world as leaders. \nEach day our practice will be focused on one or two of the seven practices of a mindful leader: Love the work; Do the work; Don’t be an expert; Connect to your pain; Connect to the pain of others; Depend on others; and Keep making it simple. \nWe will practice developing ways to integrate mindfulness into our ability to envision\, connect\, empower\, and collaborate. Sensory Awareness and Zen are practices through which we connect with our natural intelligence and vitality; we can discover what responds in us in the midst of change and growth; and we can learn to rely on our sensations as guides to the fresh terrain of each moment.
